Apologies for mis-spelt names.
Yesterday we (design team) discussed a range of ideas:
Tying the theme of Polychromatic (many colours; one exhibition) into the gallery's themed installations.
Focussing on using Nina's idea of making the ambient space about us being a living element of the gallery space.
Using Tuan's projected colours to lead people down the entrance corridoor using white paint on the black walls (very polychromatic).
Using Se Hyun's ball curtain in the entrance to the main projection room as an introduction with a mixture of pixelated student work and the occasional hilarious pixel people dance (the people will be pixellated students tying in with Nina's concepts).
Using the main room for a central square or cross featuring rear-projected animations and projecting us at lifesize around the edges of the room watching the work. Nina was looking into the special materials necissary for rear projection and if they are affordable. Sunny and Thuan offered to build the structures, but was wary of OHS policy.
Using the adjacent lit space for a combination of print work and computer stations featuring an interactive display of all student's show reels (and my book hehe).
Aaron is following up the use of the conference room and the side of the stairwell which could feature timetabled screenings and interactive work respectively.
Mark suggested considering how we organise the work and that content is more relevant than format. Games/retro-art/motion-graphics/graffiti/motion/time/cultural/political/social/narrative were all suggested as thematic divisions. We then decided to be very critical and perhaps choose only 1 work from each student to display and then look at that work and how it can be organised into thematic groups. Nina is currently chasing up the Multimedia students for comprehensive lists of the work submitted for selection.
Attention was given to some of Alix's ideas of using folded screens or boxes for a more complex experience. Decision has not yet been made on the use of these elements but at the moment design seems to be leaning towards showing a small amount fo the best work in the most appealing way. The computers in boxes would be good for this particularly in the open space where we can't control the general lighting. Multiple images on projectors will also be utilised for Nina's characters and perhaps elsewhere.
Everyone who wishes to be included in the gallery will have to attend a film shoot in the green screen room. If a date was set I didn't write it down but I'll post it here as soon as it's official.
We also decided to achieve the following on Thursday when we meet at 5pm:
Finalised floorplan
Short list work (if lists available by Thursday)
Confirm availability of extra spaces.
